Text Box:
1. Johann, last name pronounced Pach’ el bel in the United States, but Pac hel’ bul in Europe. He was born in 1653 and died in 1706 at age 53. Famous for the frequently heard and greatly loved Canon D…probably written in 1698.  A canon is a musical piece with several voices or instruments imitating one another, with each entering before the previous one has ended…causing an overlapping effect…akin to the Three Blind Mice, and Row, Row, Row Your Boat songs or rounds of everyone’s childhood.

An interesting fact to remember about  Pachelbel is that it was he who taught Johann Christoph Bach to play the organ, who in turn taught his little brother to play. That little brother happened to be the great, great  composer, Johann Sebastian Bach. A man named Phillip Goulding listed the top 50 greatest classical composers. Pachelbul isn’t listed in the top 50.
