Text Box:  32. This composer was from a country not famous for classical music composers…England. His name is Edward Elgar, and he lived from 1857 to 1934, 76 years. Elgar might not be a familiar name to you, but his most famous piece is known to anyone who has ever graduated from a school at ANY level in the western world. You probably have guessed the tune already…yes, The Pomp and Circumstance March.  Elgar wrote it for the coronation of King Edward the 8th, and was knighted as a result. Goulding, by the way, does not rank him in the top 50 composers…probably because he considered Elgar “a one-hit wonder”. Pomp and Circumstance was written as part of a series of 5 marches.This one comes from Number 1, written in 1901. Incidentally, it was used in the movie, A Clockwork Orange, Forest Gump, and too many others to count.
