Text Box:  2. This is picture of Antonio Vivaldi, an Italian priest.  He in fact was called the “Red Priest” by townsmen because of his long red hair, red beard, and custom of wearing red vestments.

His composing caused him problems with the church  because, at times, it seemed to the leaders that this was more important to him than his job as a priest. For example, once while holding mass, he dashed into the sacristy to write down some music that had come into his head. Needless to say, this did not sit well with his superiors, and he was later banned from holding service… to make it look good it was said “for health reasons”. Vivaldi was born around 1678 and died in 1741, about the age of 63. He is ranked by Goulding as the 37th greatest classical composer in history. He is most famous for his Four Seasons.
