Text Box:  12. His great composer did most of his work in France though he was of Polish birth. Actually his mother was of Polish descent and his father French. He had to leave Poland when the Russian conquered the country. His name is Fredrick Chopin. He lived from 1810 to 1849, dying in Paris of tuberculosis of the larynx at the age of 39. Goulding ranks him the 14th greatest classical music composer of all time. Chopin is famous for his piano works, and you have surely heard his Funeral March.

Here now are a couple of curious facts about him. Did you know that, although he died in Paris, he loved Poland so much that he decreed that his heart be buried in Warsaw?…which it was…in an urn you can see there in Holy Cross Church. It had been smuggled into Poland under his sister’s dress. Also, it’s interesting to note that he had a love relationship with a woman named Madame Dudevant, a person who wore men’s clothes, smoked cigars and called herself George Sand. She cared for him very well physically…but, some write that she was not so kind otherwise.
